About Salt City Coffee

Welcome to Salt City Coffee. We're so glad you're here! We exist to be more than a coffee shop. Intentionally near several diverse neighborhoods in Syracuse, we strive to be the “neighborhood gathering space."

Salt City Coffee is a cafe in Syracuse, New York. It is listed at 509 W Onondaga St, Syracuse, NY 13204, which places it among the local businesses of Syracuse that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as coffee shop, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 7 am–3 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Salt City Coffee at (315) 436-4690; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, saltcitycoffee.com.

Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 432 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded cafes in Syracuse.

Syracuse is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Syracuse is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Salt City Coffee is a true Syracuse gem—steeped in local pride and buzzing with creative energy. The space itself has character: exposed brick walls, cozy seating nooks, and a laid-back vibe perfect for laptop work or long chats. The drinks are surprisingly adventurous. Their specials are genuinely worth trying, which is rare even among good cafes. The Parasol (a ginger matcha fusion) is layered and aromatic—divisive but deeply flavorful if it’s your thing. The Scorcher is a citrusy espresso tonic that packs a serious summer jolt. Regular drinks like the matcha latte and cappuccino are well-executed with silky milk and clean espresso notes, though not particularly standout on their own. The rotating seasonal pastries—PB&J muffin, zucchini sunrise, honey lavender donut—show off a playful, local touch. We also picked up some beans to go; they roast in-house and clearly take it seriously. In short, this is one of the few cafes where I’m excited to try the specials. Salt City is confident, creative, and grounded in community. Highly recommended.

I am newer to the area and have been trying out coffee places to find "my favorite coffee spot". Food - great. I got a blueberry lemon muffin and it was top notch in my opinion. I don't know if their baked good are made in house but it tasted like it was. Coffee - so far my favorite taste of coffee from all the coffee shops I have visited thus far. I enjoyed their coffee so much that I have returned for a second time. The first picture is when I stayed to eat and the second picture is from today when I was in more of a hurry and took my order to go. I love that they make the foam art on both the to-stay and to-go orders. Atmosphere is not exactly what I am personally looking for (it is great for those that are looking for a library feel with the darker paint colors I feel giving it that vibe). We all have our own preference and so far they won me over with their latte.

Forever my favorite local coffee shop. The workers are always so nice, the coffee is great and the place is absolutely adorable and welcoming. I love taking my friends here for the first time to enjoy it. The Valencia cold brew is my go-to, and the cuselandia is a close second. Highly recommend it!

Very elegant and calm atmosphere inside the cafe. Quick service, nice people. Loved the avocado toast with pickled onions and cappuccino. The bagel sandwich was also good. The orders look like small portion but they were extremely filling. Had a nice breakfast with friends. Do visit 😊

Definitely underrated… One of the better bacon egg and cheese bagels I have had in upstate NYC! Perfectly done and toasted. Coffee and presentation was amazing. I got a mocha coffee and they burn 🔥 a marshmallow on top. Chai Latte was good too. The interior was very homey. I would highly recommend!
